are you 4x4-curious??? have you ever been on a 4x4 run???

Have you ever wondered what happens on these 4x4 runs?  How hard are they?  What does everyone do?

Do you have a 4x4-capable vehicle, but not sure if you want to take it on a trail?  Why not join us at our monthly social meetings: 1st Wednesday of every month, check it out, see if this hobby suits you from a social perspective.  Chat, learn about our experiences & about the trails we like to frequent.  After that, if this is for you, we can discuss how we can get you to join CO4x4 on a trail!!!

(Please respect Covid-19 social bubbles)

Check-out our Calendar of Events and/or Contact our Club and make a plan to join us and see if you get bitten by the 4x4-Bug!!!

All Rigs Welcome

Rig is another term used by Enthusiasts when they are  talking about their Off-Road vehicle

This is not a club for specific types of vehicles: all Rig types are Welcome!

We welcome all sorts of vehicles from stock to modified! There have been quite a number of trucks (and cars!!) over the years that have been very unique.  As long as it provides power to more-than-one set of wheels (4-Wheel-Drive / All-Wheel-Drive), has low-range capability, and has enough bottom-clearance to drive off the pavement, it’s good enough to enjoy many trails in Ontario!

When CO4x4 is planning a Trail Run on a trail that is more complicated than a Stock Rig may be able to navigate, the specific Trail Host will identify this at the announcement of the Trail Run

Our member’s experience level also ranges from the absolute beginner to those with years and even decades  of guiding on the trails.  Most of our Members ride in stock to lightly modified Rigs: we specialize in helping beginners learn the capabilities of themselves and their Rig!

Tread Lightly Philosophy

CO4x4 stands by the Tread Lightly philosophy in an effort to preserve and work with recreation areas, so we may return again

We promote safe four-wheeling for both the participants and the environment, and believe that when using a trail, you should leave nothing behind and take only memories and friendship with you

CO4x4 will often participate in Trail-Clean-Up Runs where Enthusiasts from numerous Clubs gather to maintain trails that have seen heavy-use:

participation in this effort is voluntary

Share The Trail

Club members believe strongly in the sport, we are determined to keep promoting its safe and responsible aspects, and we share the trail with

all different types of trail users:

  • Horseback Riding
  • Campers / Hiking
  • Dog-Walkers / Jogging
  • Dirt-Bikes / Mountain Bikes
  • ATV's / Argos
  • Bird Watchers / Wildlife / Naturists
  • Photographers / Drone Pilots
  • Fishing Enthusiasts

...and anyone else who enjoys the outdoors & nature as much as we do!

Efforts are made to avoid particular locations where seasonal hunting is allowed, during the seasons/times when hunting is permitted

By-default, when we encounter another trail-user, our Crew will safely move over (where possible) and stop to allow the other user to pass, unless they wave-us-on

As a courtesy to other trail users, when our Crew is passing another user/group, we may identify how many of us there are by "calling-out" or "gesturing", so they may plan/prepare when they can commence their trail use

Water Crossing

A common topic of discussion among Enthusiasts is crossing water on the trails

Ideally, this would be avoided however, many responsible trail-users feel this is a part of the excitement & diversity of a trail.  There is also a risk to the Rig if the specifics of the crossing aren't known: depth, solid vs muddy bottom, rocks, logs, etc...

Where possible/available, often large/long water crossings are avoided, but we are all at the mercy of the local Weather

Trail users are expected to keep their Rigs in good-running-order, to successfully complete the trail, but also to avoid contaminating any part of the natural environment: water or land.  Rigs that are currently leaking fluids/lubricants should have the necessary repairs completed prior to Wheeling.  Often, organized trail clubs/hosts will carry a selection of spill clean-up/containment materials

Please be advised to watch-out for the Swamp-Swimmers!!! TM
